New Firearm Session in the Springfield District Court

All defendants who are arraigned on criminal complaints issued by the Springfield District Court which contain a charge involving firearms in violation of Massachusetts General Law 269 shall have their cases scheduled for Pre-trial Conference, Motion and Bindover hearings in a dedicated Firearm Session. Suffolk County, Essex County, and Middlesex County also have sessions that deal solely with firearm charges. Suffolk County did a four year report on the effectiveness of the court and found there was an 89% conviction rate and the average prosecuting time of 158 days which is down from 365 days.
