Massachusetts Sex Offender Statute Amended

Chapter 63 of the Acts of 2013 amended the Massachusetts sex offender statute (Mass. General Laws chapter 6 sections 178C - 178Q) to require level 2 and 3 sex offenders to register in person with the local police within 2 days of their release from the custody of an agency.  A sex offender registers in the town or city where they live, or if they do not reside in Massachusetts, in the town or city where they have a secondary address, work or attend an institution of higher education.   The law was further amended to allow a police officer, district attorney or an employee of Health and Human Services to forward information to Sex Offender Registry Board indicating that the sex offender is at risk of re-offending.  See also our law about page on sex offenders.
