Gov. Patrick Introduces Legislation to Limit Noncompete Agreements

The Governor recently filed An Act to Promote Growth and Opportunity. Section 11 of the proposed legislation would make most employee noncompete agreements illegal in Massachusetts. The Governor sees this legislation as necessary for Massachusetts companies to equally compete for jobs with California, a major rival in the technology sector.  California already has a strong ban on noncompetes.

There is a lively debate  involving established companies and start ups about the merits of the proposed legislation.  Check out our Law About Noncompetition Agreements page for information on the current law and any changes that may develop as a result of the proposed legislation.
