Changes to Massachusetts Minimum Wage Law

In August the statute of limitations for bringing a criminal or civil action under the Massachusetts wage law was changed.  Chapter 292 of the Acts of 2014 increased the statute of limitations from two years to three years by amending Mass. General Laws chapter 151 section 20A.   If a employee files a wage complaint with the Attorney General's Office, the three year period is tolled from the date of the complaint until the Attorney General issues a letter authorizing the employee to bring an action or the date an enforcement action becomes final.  On January 1, 2015, the minimum wage in Massachusetts will increase to $9.00 per hour.  This change was made pursuant to chapter 144 of the Acts of 2014.  For more information on the Massachusetts minimum wage law, visit the website of the Office of Workforce and Labor Development or our law about page on minimum wages
