Tax Scam Dirty Dozen List for 2013

To help raise awareness of tax scams, the DOR has just released its Dirty Dozen List for 2013. Many of these schemes peak during filing season as people prepare their tax returns.

DOR warns taxpayers to be aware of check overpayment scams involving fraudulent checks identified as Commonwealth of Massachusetts/Department of Revenue. DOR also warns individuals against certain search engine results for "Massachusetts tax forms" that may contain a malicious virus that will infect computers.

Nationally, tax fraud is an increasing problem. Massachusetts is no exception.
