Background check regulations broadened by Dept. of Early Education and Care
The Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) issued emergency regulations effective on Dec. 12, 2013 which amend 606 CMR 14 regarding background checks. The emergency regulations add new requirements for finger-based checks of national and state criminal history databases and the Sex Offender Registry Information. Background checks will be required for persons seeking early education and care licensure or certification, volunteers or interns for EEC programs, household members and persons regularly on the premises of family child care homes, in-home non-related EEC funded caregivers, foster and adoptive parents and household members, and transportation providers for EEC programs.
